THE Republic of Ireland U16 team were beaten 4-0 by an impressive Dutch side in their second friendly international this week in Arnhem this afternoon.
Similar to Tuesday’s encounter with the Dutch, Tom O'Connor's defence produced a disciplined first half, with both sides failing to find the net by half time.
The Netherlands came back from the break in attacking mode however, with half-time substitute Rashaan Fernandes netting for the hosts after ten minutes. A goal from Javairo Dilrosun followed three minutes later, before Fernandes netted again after 60 minutes, before Joey King sealed the deal for the Dutch with their fourth goal after 74 minutes.
Speaking after the game, Republic of Ireland U16 Manager Tom O’Connor reflected on the trip saying, ‘The first halves of both games were great. We made changes for the second half of each fixture to give everybody a run.’
‘The objective of the trip was to give each of the players a chance to see what it’s like to play against a top quality team at international level. Each of them learnt a lot, and we can take plenty from this trip to build on.’
